Geotechnical Projects

Flow Consulting Engineers has the capacity to handle small or large geotechnical projects.  Our capabilities are described in the following projects which we have completed.

Residential Housing

Since 2005 FCE have been completing AS2870-2011 site classification reports for residential housing between Perth and Broome. 

Public & Commercial Buildings

FCE have completed the geotechnical investigations required for design of the ASKAP Murchison Support Facility at the Geraldton University Centre, Fisheries and DEC’s new office development in Denham, Centro Stirling’s & Northgate shopping centre re developments Geraldton, Beverley Community Sport & Recreation facility, BHP community centre land development in Newman townsite, Dongara medical centre, Sunset caravan park development, new Atom fuel terminal for UGL in Geraldton, Geraldton and Newman Hospital redevelopments, Geraldton Grammar school, Dampier community centre, Geraldton Foodbank, Geraldton SES facility at airport, Northampton volunteer fire rescue building, Kalbarri, Meekatharra and Champion Bay high school improvements and the new Greenough regional women’s prison.

Residential & Commercial Land Development

FCE complete investigations for residential, industrial, and commercial land development projects for public and private authorities from Perth to Broome. 

Industrial Infrastructure

Geotechnical investigations that FCE have completed to allow the design and construction of industrial infrastructure including Downer EDI’s new asphalt plant in Narngulu, Albany & Watheroo wastewater treatment plants, wastewater plant and eastern breakwater study for Midwest Ports, SIMS Metal Kwinana steel recycling facility, and weigh bridge facilities for the Shire of Carnarvon Shire, QR National and CBH facilities in the Midwest and wheatbelt.

Roads & Civil Infrastructure

FCE completed the investigation required for construction of 90km of Karara haul road for THIESS in 2006.  FCE & BME also investigated potential sources of borrow materials for road construction along the route.  BME completed all soils laboratory testing for the project.  

FCE completed the investigation required for construction of an airstrip on Dirk Hartog Island for Dept. Parks and the investigation for Georgiou for the Karloo traffic bridge in Geraldton.

FCE & BME regularly complete road pavement investigations and sampling and advise of road pavement characteristics for the City of Greater Geraldton, regional Shires and MRWA. FCE & BME have completed extensive pavement investigations to the GNH, NWCH and Brand Highways throughout the Midwest, Gascoyne, Pilbara, and Murchison districts.

Mining, Oil & Gas

In October 2020 FCE completed a geotechnical investigation at the site proposed for Strike Energy’s West Erregulla gas processing compound.  FCE also completed a similar detailed geotechnical investigation and report for the nearby Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) gas processing compound.  The geotechnical study for AGIG included geotechnical investigation of a 30km flowline route by drilling. In 2017 FCE completed a similar geotechnical investigation at the nearby site proposed for Stage 2 of the Waitsia Gas project.

In October 2020 FCE completed a geotechnical investigation at the site proposed to construct the Iluka Eneabba phase 2 processing plant which is a $35 million project.  Work completed by FCE included earth resistivity testing.

In September 2020 FCE completed a geotechnical investigation along the new flowline route proposed at the Beharra Springs gas processing facility which is situated near Dongara in the onshore North Perth basin. 

Geotechnical investigation for infrastructure at the $1.5B Karara iron ore project.  BME provided site laboratories at Karara for the construction of the mine and Karara rail network working for NRW, Macmahon and Midwest Rail Joint Venture during 2010, 2011 & 2012.

Earth Satellite Antenna and Defence Work

FCE completed the geotechnical investigation work for the first stage (36 antennas) of the $111M Australian Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Pathfinder Radio Telescope (ASKAP) project to be delivered by the CSIRO. The project is situated at the undeveloped Boolardy Station in the Murchison.  FCE’s geotechnical investigation of each remote antenna site included test pit construction with 30t excavator, DCP testing to assess the insitu strength and CBR of the foundation soils, sampling and soil resistivity testing at each antenna site using Wenner method and using a DET2/2 Megger soil resistivity tester.  Pavement investigation works including investigation of approximately 9km of proposed access road alignment and dipping’s for CBR / MDD, PSD & PI.  Investigation for potential sources of borrow materials for road construction was also undertaken.  BME completed all sampled soils laboratory testing for the project.  BCE have completed geotechnical investigations for earth satellite antennas in Christmas Island and the Northern Territory.

Energy

FCE completed the geotechnical investigation work for $50M Greenough River Solar Farm (10MW) in WA.  Project is Australia’s first utility scale solar farm and the largest in Australia (in October 2012).  It is located at Nangetty Walkaway Road, Walkaway, 50 kilometres southeast of Geraldton. The solar farm covers 80 hectares.  FCE completed geotechnical investigation for the site, permeability testing, resistivity and thermal resistivity testing, pavement investigation and design and driven steel pile lateral and pull-out testing.

FCE completed the geotechnical investigation work for the $500M Three Springs power plant.

At the Warradarge and Yandin Wind Farm projects in 2020 BME & FCE provided DECMIL with level 1 inspection and testing reports for crane pad and wind turbine foundation preparation.
